EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 Replaces the Machinery Directive from January 2027

From 20 January 2027 the EU Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 replaces the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, adding requirements for safety-related software, cybersecurity and digital instructions, and requiring third-party assessment for some high-risk machinery categories. Machinery already placed on the EU market must carry a technical file, an EU declaration of conformity and the CE mark, with the importer’s name and address shown on the machine or its documentation. Exporters are warned that a Chinese test house ‘CE certificate’ is often only a voluntary report rather than a notified-body certificate.
